It is interesting to me that even though folks know their nerves are shot by listening to outrage culture, they love swimming in the current.
I have not logged onto any platform in a year, except this one. And I completely cut out all news / cable / political outlets in 2021. There is no way I would go back, or participate in that kind of drama.
But how can you stay abreast of important events my friends ask? Easy. Everyone around me tells me (without asking).
I think there’s an adrenaline hit from getting angry. There’s actually something that feels good about it. And that’s why people keep listening/reading/watching.
It's easy to be influenced by the digital outrage porn (news) out there every second and not even know it. It's a key reason I advocate for kids to not even have a phone or severely restrict what they can do with it because the damage is pervasive.
Yes. Drives me nuts to see toddlers with their faces in iPhones/iPads. Ignorant parents that don't want to be bothered and seem clueless about what they're doing to their kids.
I would even point back as far as putting entertainment options into vehicles. Keep them sucked into screens and quiet rather than interacting. (It's hard at times, I know.) We will not understand the real costs of all of it for decades yet. But I predict it will be far worse than anyone thinks right now.

“Everyone around me tells me (without asking).“
LOL, great point.

Kids with phones is the epidemic no one wants to address. The child stays silent and entertained, that's parental bliss.
The mind has not evolved to process 100s of images / messages every hour.

I’m on this fast right now. That’s why I love substack. It’s like a nature reserve that is still protected. I hope it stays this way.
I'm just (re)starting today as well. I won't include Substack on my block list because of what I'm doing here.
Another great one! I promote it . Follow along too!
